Botanicals for the Digestive System
All systems in the body are interconnected, but the digestive system is truly a team effort. Like a reverse-assembly line, food enters whole and leaves deconstructed. Along the way, each player contributes. First they add (saliva, acid, bile), then they stir (peristaltic movement). There is extraction (lymphatic and villi ) and modification (thanks to our symbiotic friends –see above: Botanicals for the Skin) and finally, excretion. Plants can offer assistance at each stage of the digestive process. Lined with modified skin cells (see above: Botanicals for the Skin), the digestive tract is another part of ourselves that is open to our environment by way of the foods we eat. And it is an environment that has always consisted of plants -- plants that increase the flow of bile, plants that effect peristaltic movement, that move the lymph and that feed our symbiotic friends. The following products contain herbs that have an effect on the digestive system.
